Arte, storia e cinema.
Originaria della fine del XVIII secolo, la Villa del Balbianello domina la punta della penisola di Lavedo a Lenno. Oltre ad essere un gioiello architettonico, il giardino a terrazze e la loggia a tre arcate ne sono l’emblema, la Villa offre la visita alla ricca collezione d’arte e ricordi di viaggio del suo ultimo proprietario, l’esploratore Guido Monzino. Per sua volontà, dopo la sua morte nel 1988, fu ceduta al Fondo per l’Ambiente Italiano.
La Villa del Balbianello oltre ad essere meta di visite artistiche e turistiche è stata location per alcune scene di due film indimenticabili, conosciuti in tutto il mondo: Guerre Stellari Episodio II – L’attacco dei cloni e 007 – Casinò Royale.

Built at the end of the XVII century, Villa del Balbianello dominates the Lavedo peninsula in Lenno. Not only an architectural jewel, on top the park and the three arches loggia, the Villa offers the visit to a rich art and memorabilia collections of its last owner, the explorer Guido Monzino. After his death in 1988, the Villa was given, according to his wishes, to Fondo per l’Ambiente Italiano.
As well as artistic and touristic destination, Villa del Balbianello was chosen as movie location for a couple of unforgettable movies: Star War Episode II – Attack of the clones and 007 Casinò Royale.

E non finisce qui, in programma una meta ancora più lontana, Capo Finisterre, circa 100 km oltre Santiago, affacciata sull’ Oceano Atlantico, dove secondo gli usi i pellegrini giunti sino a qui devono raccogliere una conchiglia dalla spiaggia e bruciare uno degli indumenti utilizzati durante il viaggio.
E pensare che molti che hanno meno della metà dei loro anni prendono la macchina anche per andare dal panettiere.
i lake Como ha una sola parola: Rispetto!
From Casnate to Santiago on foot and in a short time!!! Corrado di Mauro and Concetta Agosto, 78 years old the guy, 68 years old his wife, a trekkers life around Europe, covered the 800 Km dividing Casnate from the famous pilgrimage site in less than a month…..backpacking and shoes the only mean of transport. They left on June 12nd and on July 3rd they were already back home. What a style those “guys”.
And it’s not over yet. They are planning to reach an even more far destination: Capo finisterre, 100 km beyond Santiago, on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, where by tradition all the pilgrims have to pick up a shell from the beach and burn one of the clothes used during the journey.
And all this, when most of the people having more than half of their age, have to take the car to go to the bakery. i lake Como has only one word for them: Respect!
The 12 of June we wrote the news I LAKE COMO, I LAKE SAN GIOVANNI. We need to correct an historical information. The Battle of Comacina was fought between Comacini and militias from Como. Federico Barbarossa was, in that period in Germany. A special thank to Gigliola Foglia, journalist, touristic guide and local history studious for the correction.
Bellagio celebrates its patron saint. During the week of the 27th and 28th of June the Festival of San Giovanni will have its 29th birthday. The events the most expected are the “Lucie” (traditional boats) race fixed for the saturday afternoon and the fireworks show, commemoration of the Battle of Comacina (24th of June 1169) between Comacini and Federico Barbarossa, scheduled for sunday night. Greedies will find, during the whole week end, traditional delicatessen to be discovered. Musical and dancing entertainment during saturday night.
Troppo facile arrivare sul lungo lago in macchina, o in moto, quindi la nostra proposta è un po’ differente.
Qualche anno fa, un’antica mappa riscoperta nell’Archivio di Stato di Como ha infatti permesso di ripristinare il tracciato di una vecchia mulattiera, a lungo dimenticata, che collega la città di Como con il centro di Bellagio, giungendo in località Ponte del Diavolo. L’Antica Strada Regia (o Antica Via Regina), è percorso pedonale, o ciclabile, di una trentina di chilometri che offre un impareggiabile panorama del Lago permettendo al contempo di camminare in pieno relax lontano dal traffico della strada che costeggia il lungo lago, facilmente intasata nei weekend estivi.
Chi volesse percorrere tutto il percorso dell’Antica Strada Regia può raggiungere Como in auto o treno e salire fino a Brunate. Dal paese parte il primo tratto della strada che conduce ai paesi di Blevio, Torno, Molina, Palanzo, Careno e infine arriva a Bellagio. Per il ritorno a Como è possibile prendere un autobus di linea Spt.
Reaching the lake by car or by motorcycle is really too easy so here a different idea to enjoy the lake shores.
Few years ago an ancient map was rediscovered in the city of Como archive, a map tracing an old and forgotten “mule track”, connecting Como to Bellagio, arriving in Ponte del Diavolo (Devil’s Bridge).
The old Antica Strada Regia (Old Queen Way) is a pedestrian/ cycle track, 30 km long, which offers an incomparable overview of the lake while walking or cycling in complete relax, far off the city traffic, in particular during the summer week end.
The easiest way to reach the track is to reach Como, by car or by train and taking the funicular to Brunate. From there starts the track towards Blevio, Torno, Molina, Palanzo, Careno e last, Brunate. Once there, if you’re to tired for another walk, it’s possible to catch the bus to Como.

Como è città di scienza! Qui nel 1745, nacque il Conte Alessandro Giuseppe Antonio Anastasio Volta (Alessandro Volta!), inventore della pila. Volta fu nominato conte da Napoleone, in onore dei suoi studi scientifici, ed insignito del titolo di professore di filosofia presso l’università di Padova, dall’Imperatore d’Austria.

La città di Como ha dedicato a Volta musei, rassegne, monumenti, vie e istituti scolastici. In particolare, in occasione del centenario della sua morte (1927), sul lungolago di Como fu costruito il Tempio Voltiano, museo contenente cimeli del grande scienziato, mentre a Brunate sulla vetta del Monte Tre Croci fu eretto il Faro Voltiano, torre ottagonale alta 29 metri. Vicino a Como c’è Villa Olmo che ospita la fondazione Volta, un’organizzazione che promuove attività scientifiche
Como is city of science too. Alessandro Giuseppe Antonio Anastasio Volta (Alessandro Volta!), inventor of the battery was born here in 1745. Napoleone made him a count, as a honour of his scientific studies and the Emperor of Austria named him Philosphy professor at Padua.
Per vedere Milano basta andare a Como.
Dalla città di Como prendendo la funicolare si arriva a Brunate.
Sulla Cima delle Tre Croci s’innalza la Torre ottagonale ,di 29 metri, del Faro Voltiano, costruita nel 1927 in occasione delle celebrazioni del 1° centenario della morte di Alessandro Volta.
Dalla cima del faro si puo vedere tutta la valle del Lario e una gran parte della pianura padana e dell’arco alpino.
Osservando verso Milano, nelle giornate con cielo sereno, un piccolo bagliore disturberà il nostro sguardo, è la madunina del Duomo di Milano che riflette la luce solare in tutto il suo splendore.

From the city of Como you can reach, by funicolar, Brunate.
Right there, on the top of Tre Croci, rise the Octogonal Tower of the Voltian Lighthouse, 29 m high, raised in 1927 in occasion of the 100th anniversary of the death of Alessandro Volta.
From the top of the lighthouse you can admire the whole Larian landscape and most of the Pianura Padana and part of the Alps.
Looking toward Milan, in a sunny day, you may get a glimpse of a distant glare.
It is the Madunina, the virgin Mary standing on top of the Duomo of Milan, silently reflecting the sunlight all over the city, as far as you.
